Conn Director

I just purchased a Conn Director Coprion for $200.00. The pics looked good and it's guaranteed to play. How did I do?

Re: Conn Director

Depends on the year, model, condition, etc. Paid more than some less than some. The pre 1960s are more sought after and have fancier engraving and many say better quality. Condition is the biggie. Do you have pictures, etc? Post a serial number but not the last three digits use x's for them. Never post you full serial number.

Re: Conn Director

Very well,

It really depends on the instrument when it arrives, but Coprion Directors are fine instruments if pre 1970.

There were 2 models according to the Conn Loyalist, the earlier 1950's director 18B with angled support strut, and the later 1960's director 17B with vertical strut.

Both are worth more that the $200 you paid even at ebay prices.

The earlier model is the more desirable of the 2 but I would be proud to own either one.

Well done

Brian

It sounds like step #1 went well. Step #2 is yet to go - try playing it and see if it sounds like it is worth $200. I have some that sound like they are worth waaaay more than I paid and others....well - they are fun to look at anyway.

Re: Conn Director

Thanks guys. The seller had several upclose photos and the horn looked really good for it's age. Which he said was circa 1958. The serial number is 752xxx. He also stated that "all dents removed, completely serviced and ready to play". I didn't do a lot of research becuase I didn't expect to win the bid. It's my first experience with e-bay. Guess we should combine this thread with "e-bay help".

Re: Conn Director

The horn arrived on Wednesday and I am very pleased with it. It's in great shape for it's age. Everything works just fine. But most importantly it plays GREAT! The first and third valves are a little noisey but I assume that's easily fixed.

I'm a little confused about what model it is though. According to the Conn Loyalist the serial number (752xxx) puts it being built circa 1958. Which means, again according to the loyalist, it should be a model 18B with slanted braces. But the braces are staight and it looks like a 17B, which wasn't supposed to be built until the '60's.

Mac

"The late model 14B's and 18B's closely resemble the 15B and 17B. Earlier 14B and 18B's have distinctive diagonal braces."
