Considering Getzen Genesis or Cannonball

I am looking to buy a new horn. I was considering a Getzen Genesis, however, have not had the chance to play one due to limited availability. I recently was introduced to Cannonball Stone trumpets and was very impressed. I would be interested in getting a perspective on these two horns.

I played both and they are both very different horns. The Genenis is a heavy "jazzhorn" with a darker sound and slots very well.

The Cannonball 725 is a Bach ML37/43 clone with a few minor differences and the 789RL is more like crossover between a Bach ML72 and a Connstellation.

So if you're searching for an allround horn I would recommend the Cannonball 725. The 789RL and teh Genesis are more suited as jazzhorns, because they have a bigger and darker sound.

Re: Considering Getzen Genesis or Cannonball

Cannonball horns are very hit or miss in my experience. A dealer gave me 5 or 6 to try, and I was impressed by some, unimpressed by others, and absolutely loved one. I don't recall the model number but it was silver plated and had a huge bell and equally huge sound. Playing Ein Heldenleben on it was INCREDIBLE. When it comes time for me to buy a new Bb, I will be looking at that horn and the two Yamaha Artist Models. That's how much I liked it.

I also recently tried the Cannonball and like Jcoffey above didn't note the model number. It too was a silver plated horn with huge bell. I was very impressed with it, my kids were with me and they had to drag me out of the store like I usually have to do with them at a toy store. Intonation was good, slotted well had a BIG fat sound.

Haven't tried the Getzen so I have no comment there, except that I think you can't go too far wrong with choosing between the 2. They should both be fine horns.

As always, play as many of them as you can get you hands on and choose the one thst suits you best.

Also don't limit yourself to these horns, other horns may suit you equally well for a lower price tag.

I did forget to mention that I really liked the look of the semi-precious stone valve caps on the Cannonball. Hopefully you'll focus your search on playing charateristic, but man they looked good.
