![]() | Hi ladies and gentlemen. I am a new player and have been taking lessons from a great teacher for several months now and realy love it. I'm considering purchasing a cornet . What I have in mind would be a short model with a shepards crook that is of fairly high quality and easy to play. Any recommendations ? Thanks. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Which cornet would you recommend? Are you looking for new or vintage? Are you looking for a model specifically identified as "professional" or any good player? If you are looking for a vintage, good player, I would recommend the Holton C605 Shepard's crook model. Mine is a great cornet with a classic retro look and fantastic sound. It can play just about anything with the proper mouthpiece.

![]() | Re: Which cornet would you recommend? Bach cornets sound like trumpets. Get a Getzen if you really want a new cornet. Otherwise, look for something vintage. This is coming from an experienced (15 years) brass band cornetist. |

![]() | Re: Which cornet would you recommend? I suggest also trying out a Getzen Capri. It's a truly fine cornet that's very easy to play and an excellent value. My main cornet is the Blessing XL-CR short-model cornet, but it's not for everyone. It has a delightful sweet tone and a very open blow for a cornet. It's got a nice heftiness to it, is very well balanced and a delight to handle. Unlike the Getzen, Holton, and Olds cornets I've sampled over the years, the slotting on the Blessing is a bit squirrely, but, perhaps as a result, it's very nimble across the partials. Working with the Clarke Studies and Arban's is great fun with the Blessing.

I don't think it's true though. Mine sounds like a cornet.

![]() | Re: Which cornet would you recommend? My Bach 184L Short model cornet sounds quite cornet-like with the correct mouthpieces, a Bach 3 or a Monette Flumpet style. A Bach 3C does make it sound like a trumpet, though. |
