![]() | Courtois flugels: 4-valve vs 3-valve It's time to step up from my cheapo. I've played a couple recent make 3-valve Courtois flugels in silver; can anyone tell me how the 4-valve 156 plays & sounds compared to the "regular" models? |

![]() | Re: Courtois flugels: 4-valve vs 3-valve I can only sing the praises of the 155-R (3-valve). I played several up at ITG, but I don't remember seeing the 4-valve at ITG. I would "think" though (which isn't worth a cup of coffee), that tonally...they'd be pretty darn close; since the 4-valve gives you some fingering options that my 1st & 3rd. triggers approximate.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Courtois flugels: 4-valve vs 3-valve The 4 valve version of any horn (even a picc!) can be stuffier in response due to the additional twists and turns in the valve block. The 4 valve instruments are also considerably heavier. I have a 4 valve Getzen that I wouldn't part with, the 4th valve makes it soooo much more flexible!
