Dog in the Spotlights of a Car - Which Horn?

Sorry if you don't appreciate my title. I found it to be funny. Any way, I am begining to do some research for my next trumpet. Currently I am using a extremly good beginner trumpet, the Bach TR300, it is a nice little trumpet. I am not going to trade it in for the $300 I would get for it, instead I am going to use it for marching band (I had my trumpet nearly fall down the bleachers and at clinic it got pretty scratched up). Any way, I am looking for my next horn. I am looking into the Bach Strads and Yamaha Xeno. They both seem like great horns. I looked into Monette, Taylor and Eclipse, and they are a bit to expensive for me. I am only looking to spend $1,500-$2,000 or so as I nor my parents are made out of money.

What are your suggestions?
How are the Strads and Xenos?
Which one is good for Jazz?
How are the Schilkes?
Other brands?
Are Monette, Taylor and Eclipse's really worth it?

Remember that is is all personal opinion.

In my opinion....

Yes to Eclipse beong worth it!

Schilkes are very good trumpets.

If you cannot afford Monette, Taylor or Eclipse...Look SERIOUSLY at the trumpets of Roy LAWLER!

You could also do a lot worse than pick yourself up a nice Getzen. Brett posts here and would be happy to answer your questions; the price is right, the quality is "back up where it belongs" and nobody questions their valves. Heck, with the money you'd have left over you could pick yourself up a few hours of lessons, a bunch of mutes or even a gallon of valve oil!

If you live in a large city go play as many as you can at the local stores and get the one that sounds and feels best to you.

A Bach Strad. or Yamaha Xeno would be a great all around professional horn.

I play a Lawler. Chuck USED to... but now he plays something else...

The fit and feel of a Lawler is incredible. Also, the evenness you precieve as a player is simply amazing. The valves are like butter and very quiet (some of the quietest I've ever played on). He now does a lifetime warranty on the valves (built for him by Getzen). The horn I have has the #6 bell, in red brass. Very rich sounding horn, and it can blend well within a section but if I get on it, it can really cut, too. I love the horn. I switched from a Yamaha 6345 (another nice horn, BTW).

The Lawler is an INCREDIBLE value for your buck. He could easily charge twice as much for how well they play.

The lawler looks good but I am not sure where I can try it out. U know he has a I'll give ya 5 days to try it thing, but I am not looking to get a new trumpet for a bit (6 months or so yet), so I don't want to go getting him making me a trumpet and then sending it back, that seems wrong. I do live near NYC though.

Dillon Music is showing that they have a Model T. He has a few "Remnant" series instruments (of which the Model T is one), and he also has the TL custom line. All the instruments are different, as you would have guessed, but if you can get to Dillon and try the Model T, it should give you a good idea what his horns are all about. They're listing it at $2000 or so, but if you buy direct from Roy it would most likely cost less. (They have to pay their bills, too).

I agree with everything Glenn says here.

If the high end horns are too much money, you could not do better than a Lawler.

Roy usually has a few used Lawlers on his website and they occasionally show up on eBay.

I played a Schilke B6 and switched to a Lawler C7, in my opinion, it was a better horn in every respect.
