gglassmeyer has a spectacular aura about
Experiences with Conn Vintage One trumpets

I was hoping to hear what others in this forum think about the Conn Vintage One line. Conn's attempt to get back to their roots and make a horn that played and sounded like soe of the great horns of the past. Oh and they also hoped to shed their crappy reputation as a manufacturer that was interested only in sales of cheaply made instruments.

If you've given one a try or purchased one let me know if you think they hit the mark.

I'm an amatuer and bought one this past March and really enjoy playing it every time I pick it up. Based on budget and selection, my search was limited to Bach, Getzen, Yamaha, and the UMI line. I had no bias towards any manufacturer even though I've played the same Yamaha YTR-734 since 1983.

After trying many horns, it came down to a Bach Strad 180-37 Silver and the Vintage One 1BR-46 (Rose Brass lacquered). I favored the Bach until I put the rounded tuning slide into the Conn. This really made a difference blow of the horn and I chose it. I don't really care to use the weight valve caps, so they stay in the case.

So go ahead and let me know your experiences good or bad, I'll still love my horn anyway. I just don't see many folks talking about them here and wonder why.
