![]() | Extensive Review of Scodwell Trumpet Well, after owning my Scodwell for about 1.5 months, I feel comfortable reviewing it. To put in short, it's the second best trumpet I've ever played, and the best under 10K. (The best is Monette MF Horn). To start, here are some pictures: The horn is in raw brass As you can tell, the raw brass is turning a bit mellow. I'm debating about getting brush gold plating at some point. As far as sound and everything else: First off, this is advertised as a lead horn, and it is great for that. But, I have also used it in 2 Wind Ensembles, a brass quintet, and 2 small jazz groups. All of this was with a Monette BL2. The Valves are amazing, the best, bar none. All I can say, is that for 2600, you can't get any better. Heck, for 5000 you can't get any better. Any important questions- Musicdelstrad@aol.com Greg |

![]() | Re: Extensive Review of Scodwell Trumpet Greg - Congratulations on your new trumpet. And kudos to you for taking some time to really learn how it plays before posting a review. I own a Scodwell C trumpet so I have a small idea of what you are experiencing with this horn. They are certainly fine trumpets and fun to play. Still, if you have a moment, I'd like to hear about the reactions to the Scodwell by others in your Quintet and Wind Ensemble settings (even the conductor Thanks. - Matt

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Extensive Review of Scodwell Trumpet Tony does excellent work, and can somehow tailor the resistance of the horn to suit the player. There are some advantages to having top-rate trumpet players build horns, plus, he's a really nice guy! Congratulations!

![]() | Re: Extensive Review of Scodwell Trumpet All of the people I have played with have loved the way the horn sounds. Even with what I believe is a yellow brass bell, this horn is a chameleon. I blend perfectly. This horn resonates extremely well and responds physically, the whole bell vibrates, probably due to a lack of Valve Cluster to bell brace. I love it. Greg |

![]() | Re: Extensive Review of Scodwell Trumpet Your comments confirm what I suspected. I've only played on a Scodwell Bb for 10-15 minutes - not enough time to make a complete assessment - but the build of the horn has many similarities with my C. I like your use of the word "chameleon" too. It's simply a great trumpet and not necessarily a lead horn. I agree with you about the vibration (my C trumpet is constructed the same way) but also think that Tony getting the braces in exactly the right places is a key factor. I find that kind of physical response makes it easier to connect to the sound and play in the center of notes, too. Thanks again for sharing about your new horn. The only problem is that it makes me want to buy a Scodwell Bb...gotta save up some $.

![]() | Re: Extensive Review of Scodwell Trumpet I dealt with Roger as well. Scodwells are only sold at Chuck Levins. Scodwells walk right out the door there all the time. Claude, If you end up with one, let me know what serial number you get. Greg |
