It always makes my laugh when I see people try and flog old/antique Trumpets on ebay. Infact you tend to see quite a few of "Olds" trumpets, and people by them thinking the horn has to be really good, not knowing unlike saxophones and
trombones,trumpets become leaky and lose their compression in the valve
section, which vastly effects the intonation and resistance and playability,
especially in horns pre-70's. The best thing you can do with this horn is take it to the crap metal yard.

Are you serious about this? Trumpets are much more maintenance free than saxophones, it costs almost a grand to get new pads put on a sax, not to mention how loose everything gets just from playing them. Same deal with trombones, a lot of old trombones need slide work to be playable. Many old trumpets you can pick up and play. I have owned a lot of vintage horns and haven't had a valve job done on any of them (and played them professionally).

You probably didn't look at the ebay link either, just judging by your post. There isn't a lot of metal in that horn to take to a scrap yard!

Well, I have three horns I play regularly. The Kanstul is new, the Olds is from the 50's and the valves are in perfect shape (in fact I have several Olds horns that are over 50 years old in which the valves have perfectly good compression), and my Benge is from the 70's, and my repair guy figured it has another 10 years to go before a replate is needed.
