Re: Favorite Jazz Horn?

Cultivate a sound you wish to have your audience hear, and play it on any horn you have. Play, play , and play some more, and sooner or later you will get what you want them to hear to come out of the bell. Pick a horn based upon how it feels to play and how it facilitates musically what you want to say. The more solid concept you develop around what your musical message is, the better you will be prepared to go audition a whole bunch of horns and find one or more which fills the bill.

Re: Favorite Jazz Horn?

Besides what is mentioned above:
When jazz is mentioned, I think about heavier trumpets. say, the Getzen Genesis / Edwards gen.X
but in the end it will all be about how you want your music to sound, no matter what genre you're playing, and picking a horn that fits best according to YOU!!!

Re: Favorite Jazz Horn?

I've been playing and selling the Phaeton trumpets for over a year now. The horn suits itself to a number of genres but I particularly like the short valve stroke, reminiscent of the Martin committee models which allows for very quick response. The horns slot very well and intonation is as good as it gets.

If I am wrong about this I'll resign my Moderator status. I'm serious about this!
I don't want you to lose your moderator mojo, so I won't mention the "Dizzy" model Committee or the Holton Firebird. You're welcome!
