![]() | Finding a good deal on a horn? Here's the deal... Getting back into it after almost 30 years. When I was younger I was a decent player with a decent upper register, of course I knew nothin' about nothin'. I've never even had the chance to play a Schilke, Yamaha, or Bach Strat. Right now I'm playing on a Conn student model borrowed from a friend. I can't help but think a higher end horn would help with intonation, slotting, upper register, etc. But everything I price new seems to be either $200-$300 ("student") or $2000-$3000 ("professional"). Can I find a horn for under $1000 that is above beginner status but not quite the investment of a full blown professional model? Thanks for your help. Operators are standing by...... |

I have played these horns at the last two ITG conventions and they are VERY good horns! Wilmer Wise has also had good things to say about them. -cw-

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Finding a good deal on a horn? The Getzen 700 series are a great horn for the price. You can also look for high quality professional horns used for less than 1K. I've been buying a bunch of WONDERFUL vintage Conn trumpets and the most I've paid for a horn is 500. ;) Good luck and have fun! -T

Now after 7 years of playing, I have "upgraded" to a second hand Getzen Eterna 900. The 700SP has been passed to my neice who is already playing beyond my skill level. The Getzen 700 cost US$595 in 2000, and I included an order for the common mutes, Harmon, Straight, and Cup using the trumpet purchase as "leverage". The second hand 900 cost about US$900 (1983 model) just 12 months ago - I hope this assists.

![]() | Re: Finding a good deal on a horn? Also try looking for used Professional trumpets. Most of the time, they were owned by pro or experienced musicians who took great care of them, so you won't need to worry TOO much. Try looking around the classifieds or the used Trumpet section of online stores like Dillons.

![]() | Re: Finding a good deal on a horn? Thanks for the input, guys. The Jaeger horns and the Getzen 700 look particularly interesting. I'm concerned about my own lack of "due diligence" in looking at used horns, but I'm certainly open to that as well. Thanks again, Steve |

if you are interested in a used hrn, it helps to find a second set of lips and ears that you can trust. Taking a qualified friend or teacher can save you surprises!
