Flugel Overhaul

I have a Yamaha YFH731 flugelhorn in silver that was bought for me new in 1985. I love this horn and how it plays. However, the silver is just beginning to pit in a few areas.

I would like to have the horn overhauled and replated in gold - possibly with scratched or bead blast. I also need a 3rd valve slide trigger added. I remember seeing some very cool triggers for this horn that were made out of wood.

Any ideas where I can find the trigger and any recommendations to perform the overhaul?

DL

Re: Flugel Overhaul

If you are thinking scratched or bead blast I would go with a lacquered brass finish. The scratched finish should be cheep but I have no idea about the bead blast.

Re: Flugel Overhaul

No laquer on any of my horns! Raw, silver or gold.
Keep in mind, gold plating means copper plate (very thin), then silver plate(very thin) then gold on top. Scratch or bead blast is no problem for a good technician (who will most likely send it out for this!).

Re: Flugel Overhaul

I've never seen wooden triggers for the Yamaha, but I know that they come standard on the Conn Vintage One. Maybe a Vintage One trigger could be adapted for the Yamaha?

Thanks so much for the input from everyone. Any recommendations on who to have do the work?
