Flugelhorn Identification Please!

Hi,

Has anyone, but me played an Allora (Model # AA 103F) Bb flugehorn? I believe it is produced in Germany by the same instrument manufacturer that makes B & S brass instruments. I checked their website and didn't see the Allora brand. It does appear that the JA Music Group may be comprised of other manufacturing companies.

JA Musik Group

The new Allora flugelhorn comes with a B & S FL 5 mouthpiece. It is engraved with "Made in Germany" on the bell, but doesn't have the engraving that B & S or the other instruments have that appear on its website.

The instrument is silverplate with a third valve slide trigger and plays very well. It has a smaller bore like the Yamaha flugels.

Any information would be appreciated.

Best wishes!

Lloyd

WoodwindBrasswind, an internet company, sells the Alloras as a house brand.

Re: Flugelhorn Identification Please!

Hi, Veerry,

Thanks for the information.

Yes, I contacted Woodwind Brasswind (South Bend) and though I have bought three horns there before and receive its catalog, it has not answered my request for information.

But, Dr. Jim Fox (Military Musician.com) and the New Brass Forum (formerly The Passionate Brass Players Index) took time to answer. I am adding it to this response, in case others wish to know the answer.

According to Doc Jim:

"Allora is made by JA Musik for WWBW. At least WWBW had good enough sense to have a decent manufacturer make their named brand brass. It is not quite the same level as the top of the B&S line, but it is close. Nice instruments that can often be had for a bargain on eBay because no one knows how good they really are.

JA Musik is growing by leaps and bounds. Not only do they have a new line of trumpets, the Allora line, they are making the new Besson line as well. Busy folks. German quality horns from a Soviet abandoned plant in East Germany that re-opened with quality and reputation in mind."

Jim

Veery, I thank you and Jim for taking the time to respond.

Best wishes!

Lloyd

B&S did make Allora model saxophones. Very high quality. I guess they like the name !
