![]() | Re: Flugelhorn suggestions You will get all sorts of suggestions--like the Kanstul 1525 that I recently bought. However, the reason I bought that one was because I attended a conference where TONS of horns were around to be played. From Jupiter to Yamaha to Getzen to Conn V1 to Stomvis to New York Trumpet Co. offerings, and from this, I picked the Kanstul. Other than recommending the 1525, I would recommend that you search for a similar event. You are in Louisiana, so maybe you could get on IH 10 this summer for the Texas Bandmasters Association convention here in San Antonio--there will be lots of horns here again. Or look closer to home and see what is there. If you can't get out and sample lots, I would say that the Kanstul and Conn are both fine choices. The Jupiter also sounded nice at the price, IMHO. have fun.

![]() | Re: Flugelhorn suggestions This is such an individual thing. You'll just have to try some out to see what fits you best...gives you the sound you are after. You already state you play Bach... you might look into a Strad flugel. It has served me well for many years. Some newer ones are in the Stage 1 line: ![]() and ![]() and ![]()

![]() | Re: Flugelhorn suggestions Try every one you can. Friends, teachers, music stores, all of 'em. A horn that's a dream for one person can sould like a big dull garden hose for others. Sometimes I think it's a more individualized sound than the trumpet. It's tough so say what kind of horn will sound the way you want, but make sure to try even the brands that you would expect to be mediocre...you just never know with flugel. Jason.
