The biggest problem is that too much of the repertoire starts in Eb, Ab or Db (or worse) and that is much less fun than F, Bb or Eb. The sound was much lighter, it slotted like a trumpet and had an awesome pedal register. Playing Oboe solos on it was a dream. I ended up selling it to buy another horn that I really needed. I sort of miss it. I have seen some rotary flugels in C. Never tried them out though. I'll make a point of it next time I see one.

![]() | Re: Flugelhorns or Cornets in C? I'm wanting to have a C horn for playing with my church choir on choral pieces that are just too mellow for trumpet, hence either a flugelhorn or a cornet with a very deep mouthpiece is what I want. And don't give me that jazz about transposing, of course I can transpose! I make up my part on the fly 99% of the time, usually, and don't want to waste energy transposing, I want to put it all into 'making the music' in the moment from my heart! Greg |

Felix, Tell us the story how you got started playing trumpet. What got you hooked, and what is it you dig about music and trumpets in particular even though we trumpet players make you crazy from time to time. Richard | |

![]() | Re: Flugelhorns or Cornets in C? I've got a Bach "C" cornet. They've only made a handful of them over the years. The Mt. Vernon catalog says they're made with a .462 bore. I've seen them with the both the 238 and 239 bell. They play great and are particularly good for playing in church or playing solos with a choir. I understand the Getzen C cornet is pretty good and probably easier to obtain. The old Bach catalog only lists flugelhorns in B flat and low e flat and high e flat.
