I was all prepared to give a smart-aleck answer like "What kind of mouthpiece would you use on *that* thing?", then just to be safe I did a Google search and discovered that the Platypus is a $3,400 trumpet rather than a furry amphibian:

Re: Geneva Platypus

I've heard some pretty mixed reviews of the Geneva line in general. I've only played one and was not really impressed at all.

Re: Geneva Platypus

Goodafternoon, I only heard it today when I listened to US3 playing Cantoaloop with Gerard Presencer playing a Geneva Platypus trumpet.Maybe it wasn't the horn, maybe it was the man playing the horn. But it made me curious.--------Gar

P.s.--May all your notes be right on !!!

Re: Geneva Platypus

"it aint the arrow...it's the indian". Gerard could play a straw and make it sound like a million pounds.

Flip Fantasia was released in 1994......Gerard played a Max trumpet for several years and I have it.....well maybe not the original one....perhaps just a cast off!

Re: Geneva Platypus

Gerard wasn't playing a Geneva when he recorded Cantaloop and he would sound great on a hosepipe anyway. He played on a Smith-Watkins as well for a bit too. Geneva are endorsed by him and another v good player (Steve Waterman), but I've heard some "mixed" reports about them too. I believe they are based on a student trumpet. Check out the comments on Brass Review to make your own mind up!
