![]() | Getzen Eb trumpet I will be trying out an old Getzen Eb trumpet. It hasn't arrived but should in a few weeks. I will have some time to try it then either buy it or send it back. Do any of you have opinions on this horn or do any of you own one? I will post serial numbers or ask Brett about its lineage in a PM. Jim |

![]() | Re: Getzen Eb trumpet What model is it? I have some opinions based on a short model Eb/D (300 series?) from 30 years ago, but would suggest that since you get to try before you buy, come up with your own un-biased opinion, then check with the rest of us if you're concerned about being "normal" or not. Have fun testing the horn! |

| Re: Getzen Eb trumpet I recently bought one (300 Series) on Ebay. There are the usual intonation issues, particularly the 4th line D, which I have to use the lower-octave 1&3 fingering on (in addition to using the lower fingerings on the E and Eb). This isn't a problem on something like the "Chocolate" solo from Nutcracker, which plays great on the horn, but gets to be a pain when trying to do Haydn, Hummel, etc. The sound is nice - very big, so that I have to back off a bit. I'm still looking for a good mouthpiece match, so it's a work in progress. Haven't decided if I'll keep it yet. Good luck, I'll be interested to see what your reactions are. |

![]() | Re: Getzen Eb trumpet Jim- Check out my last post in the Bolero thread. My roommate bought an old Getzen on Ebay (I don't remember the model number) and it plays great. I've mostly used it on the D side, but the E-flat works well too. As I say in the Bolero post, the old Getzen Eb/D that I use seems more like an enlarged piccolo than a cut down C trumpet. Depending on what you're planning on using it for, this could be a good or bad thing. For me, it's just a really fun horn to play. -Jimi |
