Getzen - Eterna

Hello, any way while I still have my beginner trumpet (great trumpet for some reason it has taken a beating), I am looking into new trumpets. So I have a question about the Getzen 900 Eterna.

Is it a intermediate horn? because I Want a pro horn not a intermediate horn.

How does it compare to the Strad or Xeno?

Re: Getzen - Eterna

That is a Pro Horn, http://www.getzen.com/trumpet/eterna/ No idea how it compares to Strad or Xeno.

It all depends on what you want and what you are looking for.

I have been trying for months to get a new horn, the most important idea on a horn :
1) How does the trumpet sound when you play it
2) Do you feel comfortable while playing it.
3) Always go to a dealer where you can play and then order if you wish online.

Hope that helps.

Good answer, CJ!

Yes, the Getzen is an excellent horn -- great sound, great valves, great feel, great value, and your money stays in America.

I don't get why people make such a big deal about whether a horn is a pro or intermediate horn. It is how you play it that matters.

Re: Getzen - Eterna

sorry, the reason had to do with a review I saw where they beat up the Eterna and called it a intermediate horn. (by beat up I obviously dont mean physically abused)

? Why do French Horn players hate it so much when you call a trumpet a horn?

Re: Getzen - Eterna

If some more money is not an issue and you like the Eterna I would definitely try out the Xeno. I personally play a Bach Strad 37 that I like very much but have played both a yamaha Xeno Bb with a heavy receiver and reverse leadpipe (belongs to my teacher) which plays extremely well. I have also played a Xeno C trumpet that felt very good but was very "plain vanilla" to me and didn't have the core in the sound that I find in my Strad 25H/229. I have also played a Getzen Eterna and found it to be somewhat stuffy. I would choose Xeno (again ignoring money) over the Eterna every time. Just some of my experience with those horns.

Re: Getzen - Eterna

Duh - because they're french horn players..............

Seriously though - Eternas are well made horns. They definitely have the super Getzen valves. The rest depends on you and whether or not you like the way it plays. When I try out new horns, I always try to take someone with me who is familiar with my playing to critique what they're hearing. It helps to get that feedback along with your own feel for the tryout.

Re: Getzen - Eterna

Try out as many as you can so you have an idea what you are wanting. There are many great Pro horns out there. If you like the Xeno or Bach you might also consider trying a Cannonball. I played one recently and was impressed.

No one is perfect I guess

Ive gotta echo the last comment, try as many horns as you can in your price range before you make you final decision, if your situation permits you to do so.

The Eterna is a great horn, I have played one a number of times. And those valves are GREAT, I love Getzen Valves!
