![]() | getzen etherna severinsen vs. selmer paris radial Hello guys, These are my trumpets at the moment. The selmer paris my companion since 1975 and the getzen later acquired. I have a dilemma and that is finding the getzen valve action smoother and less resistance while playing. on the other hand the selmer paris heavier and somehow demands more from me. I would like to know your thoughts about these trumpets and if you had the opportunity to play both I will certainly appreciate your comments and comparisons. |

![]() | Re: getzen etherna severinsen vs. selmer paris radial There are no right or wrong horns, only what works best for you. It's all about the music. Saying that, my Selmer Radial remains the sweetest horn I've ever played. After 30 years of abuse (high school, college, storage) it had taken some serious wear, and I decided to spend the money for a major restoration. It has been with Rich Ita (Marietta GA) for several months. He is apparently having some trouble finding a replacement lead pipe. Just like I can't pick your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend, I can't pick your horn. If your chops are so weak that YOU can't make a decision, that is where you need to go. I would keep them both and use them both. Maybe that is the biggest difference between you and me?

![]() | Re: getzen etherna severinsen vs. selmer paris radial I have owned several of the older Selmer horns. I have also owned a Getzen Eterna Severinsen model trumpet. I found the Selmer trumpets to be heavier (more brass?) and the sound richer amd fuller. I found the getzen valves to be impeccable and the axe more responsive and easier to play cleanly. If I was a virtuoso, the Selmer sounded better. if i was having a bad day, the Getzen was easier. Personally, I kept both and picked according to how good I felt that day. Like you, though, I felt a definite difference. |

![]() | Re: getzen etherna severinsen vs. selmer paris radial Man, that's the comparison between an excellent intermediate horn and an excellent pro level horn bar none. Given where you say you are in your playing, I'd stick w/ the Eterna if it's less demanding. The whole idea of playing properly is to gain an ease and command of the instrument. ed |
