![]() | Getzen question I have a question about a Getzen trumpet- that I'm not sure if it is a student model or not... It says "Getzen 300 series" on the bell, which is a student model, according to what I looked up. But this trumpet can also convert between Bb and C, so I don't know. It doesn't say 390 or anything, just 300 series... and I have no idea what year it was made. I guess my question is, should I take this trumpet to college with me next semester? If anyone knows anything about it, is it an all-around good horn? (It's my dad's and he's willing to let me use it.) thanks! |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Getzen question If you think of it as a C that converts into a Bb for emergency purposes, you should be fine. Usually, the Bb side doesn't play as well as a "true" Bb does on anybody's horns. But heck, it's paid for and shouldn't take up too much room when you move to college!

Wait, save up, and consider his advice - unless he wants to sell you the Golden Gate Bridge - cheap. The mark of a good horn is what comes out of the bell. If you make good music with it, it is good. If you struggle with intonation and playing softly, you could have a problem. There is no evidence that a Getzen 300 model can't do a great job!

![]() | Re: Getzen question thanks for the responses, again :) I've been playing it for a little while and I think I'll continue using it. I've been playing a verry old trumpet for awhile (a French Besson trumpet ) and it's been giving me some problems with the valves, and I end up having to use the slide for a lot of notes that shouldn't be out of tune... also, my private instructor told me it has a really small bore size so that's restricting the volume. Hopefully things will be better now. |
