![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Dan, I'm not exactly sure what you are going for with your posts. The two you referenced in May were posted months before we started implementing our own tank. At that time, we were still trying to figure out exactly what the cause was, why it was happening to some horns and not others, and how to remedy the problem. The final decision to put in our own gold wasn't made until last fall. And yes, it's taken a lot of time. I won't deny that. However, we are now working on repairing horns. I did two yesterday and plan on doing more today. As for every Genesis being afflicted with this problem, well we know that isn't true. Like I said before, we are talking about just a few horns. While it would be easy to just write those off and go on, we chose to make them right. As to why we didn't go with a a big plating company to take care of the problem.... who do you think we were using? I don't want to name names, but everyone here knows the company we used. By the way, within the last few weeks we got the last horn sent to them in. I don't know why it took so long, but guess what we saw when the case was opened? Spots, and lots of them. ![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis One more thing: Originally, the inside of the bell flare was beaded and we changed the process to leave that bright. Some liked it, some didn't. I was wondering what your opinions were either way. Bright or beaded inside? Brett Getzen |

![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis I have to admit I would like either one. My Genesis isn't the bright finish so I can't speak too much for that since I've not seen one. I also have the old scratched finish which I do like a lot. Brett did tell me a year ago that the new beaded finish is nicer looking but sometimes having something unique is a good thing. Keep up the good work. I hope mine made it back okay yesterday. I do worry when shipping horns.

![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Ok, well it's been like since October of 2005 since I've posted on this forum. I guess I haven't felt like there was a subject here that I could add to yet until now. This particular topic is relevant however, in that I was just at the Getzen factory on Monday. I was there to test out Edwards Trumpets but also took a tour of the Getzen facility. I can testify that, I in fact, did see several freshly gold plated horns and they looked fantastic! A beautiful shade of gold. Anyways, just thought I would share this. Oh and I should mention, that all the workers I met at Getzen, were very friendly and took the time to show me the different stages of horn production. Very cool! Brett, as far as the inside bell finish goes, the polished looks nice but I think I would have to vote for beaded. I think of the Genesis as a Jazz horn and for me, the whole horn having the beaded look just conveys that feeling more. Archie Last edited by Schilkeman; 04-18-2007 at 10:04 AM. |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Mr. Getzen, I look forward to seeing your efforts and solutions to this long standing problem. I will post next when my horn is returned and this long journey of promises has ended. I wish you every success in putting this matter behind you and I will take you at your word that you will contact me promptly when my horn is ready to send off (April 17,2007). Today one of my staff members finally was able to identify her niece at Virginia Tech as one of the casualties. She was a 21 year old linguistics major who was sitting on the front row of the German class room reported in the news. There were so many bodies being processed that it took the forensic team over 20 hours to get her body to the morgue... 20 hours of the family not knowing the fate of their daughters whereabouts. Again, this whole matter for me now seems rather trivial in light of more pressing and real issues at hand.

![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis I have a couple of questions about the spots you are seeing on the gold plating. What color are they ? If they are green it is probably a problem with what ever the plater is using for an under coat. Other spots could be cleaning before plating. If there is silver below the gold { you do not need silver to plate gold} and the gold is not thick enough. The silver will migrate into the gold causing white spots. It could be a porous gold deposit. It could be alot of things. Plating is not easy and to find out the cause of a problem in the field is even harder. I am not a horn player. I am a plater and it looks to me like Brett Getzen is trying to do everything he can to solve the problem that he has with the spots on his horns. |

![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Genesis is fixed! Nice job Brett. Got the horn back yesterday. I guess it did pay to wait till you were up and running with the plating tank. It looks as good as the day I bought it years ago. I was especially surprised at how fast it all happened. I sent the horn back three weeks ago and what a pleasent shock to see it waiting for me when I got home yesterday. You guys rock! Keep making those outstanding instruments! One satisfied customer here in beautiful Seattle. Well other than all the rain today. Thanks again.

![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis My son received his Getzen Genesis this week, and the color is deep and gorgeous. And gosh, until he started playing on it I didn't realize how much I missed hearing those rich tones. Thank you Getzen! |
