![]() | You're asking a very general question. Expect to get a varied response to be sure. My advice to you would be this. Decide first what it is that you want to do with the horn. You mentioned Church so this gives us some idea about direction. You need to determine what you want to sound like. More to the point. I usually play my "C" trumpet in chruch. Church music in written usually in many sharps and on a Bb that can get ugly. I had someone give me a piece of music for this Christmas with 6 sharps in it! By playing this in "C" and transposing I loose two sharps and get a better key signature. I will however use my Bb Cornet from time to time depending on the mood of the music. If it's bright and joyful "C" trumpet; if it's calm and reverent Bb Cornet. Now as for brands: You can get a good Bb Trumpet for under $1000.00 I got my King Silverflair for $500.00 used on ebay look around. I got my Getzen Bb Cornet on Ebay for $450.00 My "C" trumpet you wouldn't find for under $1000.00 they are a bit more expensive especially if you're buying a decent one. Use your best judgement and do what you can afford to do.

I will use the trumpet for playing solo, maybe Bb is a good choice which have a calm sound as you said. It's too late for me to play it on this Christmas, because I just like trumpets some days ago.. Thanks. I will try it, still learning about trumpets world :)

![]() | Nam, what Dave Mickley said will probably be your shortest distance between two points. I've not dealt with Felix and the New York Trumpet Company, and I have read only GOOD THINGS from people who have. Regards, Richard |

![]() | Hello! You have had great responses already, but I would like to add a small comment... An excellent trumpet, new, under $1000 is the Fides Pioneer! Though classified as an intermediate level trumpet, don't let that fool you! I've played some pro model horns that didn't sound as nice! And like Tootsall said, its nice when you can speak with someone who runs the shop, but are also teachers and players...which is what I am! I've got some specials running right now; you can check it out at: http://brassandwindinstruments.com/current_specials.htm Let me know if I can help you! Blessings,

![]() | I'll also suggest Felix at NY Trumpet Co. I was looking at the Yamaha 732 they have used for $450 and got great service. They still have it cause I ended up getting that 1956 Conn 6B Victor they also had for $450. For the price I can imagine a better horn. Lightweight, solid, built back when they were well made and all original. Should retain its value and I can't imagine parting with it. For $1000 you could probably get both a trumpet and cornet. The cornet I have I bet wouldn't fetch more than 250-400 and its a mint condition 1965 Holton pro level cornet. Check out ebay, trumpetherald, dillionmusic, horntrader, etc. Plenty of good horns out there.

![]() | What are you using now? If nothing or something real poor why not get an Olds Ambassador from the 50s or 60s, or maybe a special or super, you won't have to put out that much $$ and the upkeep on them is nill, the valves tend to last forever.....
