ManGo has a spectacular aura about
Heavy Courtois?

Hello fellow trumpetiers,

In about a year I'll be looking to replace my trusty Yam 1335 with something a little more "pro" like. I hope to have a budget of no more than £1500 (preferably less!) Has anyone here any experience of the Courtois horns, and especially the heavy Evolution models? Everything here seems to be Yam or VB (slight exaggeration). So I wondered if a Courtois trumpet would be worth seeking out, or will people give me sympathetic looks when I whip it out of the giglet bag?

Thanks in advance

Manny

Re: Heavy Courtois?

Manny,
As always, play before you pay... If the Courtois works for you, then go for it. Try and compare it next to other horns like Yamahas or Bachs(new and Used), Schilkes, etc. Look around, there are lots of different horns out there.

Good Luck

Am I mistaken, or have I read and seen Serge Nakariakov playing Courtois Evolution trumpets. If I am correct, at least he can get some mighty fine performance out of them. As always, play before you pay.

That's correct. But using Courtois Evolution would not make me, Many or anyone else to sound like Sergei, Andrea Giuffredi Official Website or any other of their endorsed artists...If it works for Manny - then fine, but don't be too much of geek. Be sure that this is what you need and works well for you. Besides, I don't think that Segei is using the heay evolution - it is much more likely that he uses a regular weight trumpet.

Re: Heavy Courtois?

I rented the Evolution C trumpet a few years ago and really enjoyed it once I found out how much gap I wanted to have since it has an adjustable gap MP receiver. The weight took a bit getting used to but once I practiced the horn I found out how to get it to really sing. Some of the issues I had at the beginning were also probably from my lack of C trumpet experience.
