Help finding info on vintage horn

ok well now that im posting i have 2 questions about the horn

while on a trip visiting family in Tennessee we were in an antique mall and i found a very old looking trumpet. the mouthpiece was stuck in the horn withi dirt and grim cloging it up. when i got home i had my band director take it out and the horn plays like a beast all the slides work valves are amzing but the laqure is almost all off[[my second question]]

it is a pioneer deluxe.

the only info i could find ANYWHERE is that is a Bb/A horn and that was on an ebay page with the same horn

also how much would it cost to get the rest of the laqure off because as of right now its plain ugly. also is it worth it considering i got it for $22!

any info or help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Help finding info on vintage horn

For 22 bucks you can't go wrong even if you made a lamp out of it. There have been several posts about stripping lacquer. You can do a search for more info. It seemed that old lacquer will come off with a good soaking of hot water. The newer epoxy lacquers take some solvents. Where in Tennessee did you find it? I might need to start hanging out in some new places.

Sounds like you got a deal. Probably you could have reported this on the Vintage horn thread or pawn shop finds also. The Pioneer is probably a "stencil" made by a major builder for a specific retailer. and with that slide configuration, most likely a before 30's instrument.
