Help Identifying Horn II

Hi

I am a "hobby" player and I decided to treat myself to a "New" horn. (After my cousin traded his Yam in at Dillons for the Kanstul Bergeron model.... lucky sod). After studying the usual comings and goings on Ebay I had more or less settled on the idea of a Yam 4335, given the budget I had available, my own limitations and having to justify it to the wife!!!! Anyways I noticed a rather bonny looking Kanstul on Ebay, advertised as the Burbank model with the numbers 3 and 48 stamped on it. It was purchased new in around 1990. Ironically the guy selling it lives 30 miles from me so I went along for a test drive. The horn was tidy, no dings and when I say tidy I mean almost mint! No laquer wear whatsoever, the yellow brass in the airways on the valves still shiny and the insides of the slides all still shiny. Apparently it was bought and played a few times and then been in the attic ever since!!! All in all it looks and feels superior to the Yamahas HOWEVER there are no markings on the horn apart from the Kanstul engraving on the bell with Fulerton CA USA. I have scoured (not litterally) the instrument and can find the number 48 stamped twice. One on the underside of the tuning slide and one on the slide stop screw mounts on the third valve slide. Does anybody have experience of identifying these horns? The way the 48 has been stamped on the tuning slide makes the 8 look like a 3 so I can maybe see where my seller got the 3 from. Its also got the Amado water keys. Any way of confirming the model???? Any pointers would be appreciated. I have pictures available but the files are to large to post on here (any tips on reducing file size would also be appreciated).

Thanks

Ian

Re: Help Identifying Horn II

The horn is Kanstul's copy of a Benge 3X. The 48 may be the last 2 digits of the serial number?

Re: Help Identifying Horn II

Thanks for being prompt guys! Serial nimber is 1248, so yes, it could be serial number.
I did a little research before I commited to bidding and as the Kanstul Burbank was based on the Benge 3x and both got the thumbs up I took the plunge. But alas, theres nothing on the horn to tell me what model it is!
Is there a Kanstul serial number registry somewhere maybe??

No list that I know of. I have seen recommendations to request that information thru the Kanstul website Welcome to Kanstul Musical Instruments

of COURSE it's better than the Yamaha! it sounds like an older kanstul made Burbank. you should call Charles Hargett the sales manager at Kanstul and ask about the serial number. the factory is closed right now (they said it's an annual thing) but the sales office is still open. anyway, Charles is very knowledgable about Kanstul and the other products they make.
