HELP - Lead Horn Hey guys, this is my first post on TM, and I hope I don't start a firebomb with this one. I have an LR180 Strad, and it's ok. Other people may love it, but it's just ok for me. It's a great classical horn, but doesn't cut it for my lead duties. I am looking for getting a used lead horn for around 2000. I really like the NYTC products, Eclipse, and the Wild Thing. Any other suggestions on horns and where to buy. Used would be good, as long as performance is not altered. Last edited by WhatIsHip? : 06-04-2007 at 08:26 PM.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: HELP - Lead Horn What is wrong with your Bach? Many lead players prefer Bach. Nobody can tell you what is good for you but everybody wants to help YOU spend YOUR money. Every brand of trumpet has somebody that likes it so how could that information possibly help you? How do you know if the advice is good - a bad review could just be representative of a bad attitude! As much as we like to help, this is something where YOU have to do some homework. It is the difference between being spoon fed and learning to eat by yourself. Try every horn you can get your hands on - regardless of brand - then YOU have a basis for making a decision. We would be interested in hearing about what you chose and why! If you are interested in NYTC, PM, call or mail Felix. For Eclipse, contact Leigh or one of his dealers, for the Wild Thing Flip. Don't forget the other great brands like Schilke, Yamaha, Jupiter.................................... 2 Grand will get you a lot of horn! |

Re: HELP - Lead Horn If you have the money I would highly reccomend the NYTC and Felix. The California model is a little more than you are talking about but worth it. Felix has some less expensive horns such as the Vintage Bb that plays very nicely. The Vintage is in your price range. The Schilke B5 is a great lead horn, as is the Yamaha LA model. Of course, you make the horn a lead horn

Re: HELP - Lead Horn Thanks guys, I just feel like my Bach is very tight in the upper register compared to other horns I have played. I live pretty close to the NYTC main point, so I will have to take a trip over there some time. Does anyone know how Monette Mpc work in NYTC products?? Thanks If I can pull together the moolah, it seems that a California is really there standard. Does anyone have any experiences with the California light?? Thanks

Re: HELP - Lead Horn I play a custom Cal. model. It has a copper 5 1/4 inch bell, Sterling Silver Lead pipe, and two slides (waiting on a sterling Silver Slide). I had the modular Cl. for some time, which is a light model. They play very freely and have a great sense of feedback. I used Mt Vernon Style bracing on my horn, just to add some security. The Sterling Slide is a prototype, and when I tried it out I was very pleased with its response and overtones. My horn plays in a lead setting just fine Several of the NYTC guys play the Cal light and sound great. Where are you located? IF you are near NY Rayburns has some horns in stock and I bet Felix would even meet with you. Send me a PM if you like and we can talk in more detail.
