TrialofTears will become famous soon enough
Red face Hey everyone, could use an opinion.

So my dad's buddy is trying to sell me a beautiful 1965-70 Bach Stradivarius for $1000..The horns in near perfect shape, has a copper interior bell and a valve trigger. The case is....well old, and it's stocked with vintage mutes and mouthpieces. The horns obviously been around the world according to the stickers. I really don't know how to price horns that well, but the thing plays amazing. Can anyone price this for me? I'd really rather not get ripped off.

Re: Hey everyone, could use an opinion.

Have never heard of a copper bell interior.. are you certain it isn't gold-wash? If the valves are in excellent condition then it's probably a pretty fair price; see if the seller will let you have it appraised by someone "who knows". If you like the horn and the way it works for you then the price is fair; if you don't like the horn then you won't be making "easy money" by flipping it.

W Scott is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Hey everyone, could use an opinion.

Have a good repair tech check the horn and especially the valve compression. If the valves are in great shape, then see how you like the way it plays. If you like it, I'd say buy it! The price is maybe just a tad high, but not enough to quibble about.

Seems to me, I have seen this case and horn before somewhere. If you wouldn't mind, could you PM me with the name of your dad's buddy. I think I know him and would like to catch up with him. Thanks.

Re: Hey everyone, could use an opinion.

Dude you are a lucky guy. If you found a Bach Strad that you love that is also in good condition then buy it. If you don't like the mutes then you can probably get a good price for them. If you don't want the horn please PM me contact info for the seller. Once again congrats on a FIND. As for the price a grand for a strad that is in good condition that you like isn't a bad deal.
