![]() | Holton Horn Hi, I just responded to an ad I saw for a Holton trumpet (labeled MF on the side of the bell) Didn't look old except for the general tarnished condition. Assumed it wasn't of tremendous value, but ended up buying it really cheap. It's silver plated in fair cosmetic shape, in good working condition and plays nice. Its a model ST550 with a serial number 807xxx. I'm curious about the age, general quality and who makes Holton now. Thanks, Ken |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Holton Horn Hi, Leblanc makes Holton. Bought them in 62. Now Leblanc is part of the Selmer-Steinway group. Just Google the model info and you will get a lot of hits. Is sold widely as the "Admiral" touted as a student horn that plays much better. Don't know of a recent serial number on the web, but I would guess probably after 1990. Hope you enjoy it. Dave |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Holton Horn I have an ST550S, serial# unknown until I go home later. It is a nice free blowing ML bore instrument with farily good intonation. To describe it as a student horn with "pro" characteristics is fairly accurate. It is basically a Strad knockoff, having 1st valve saddle and 3rd valve ring with an adjustable stop nut on a threaded rod. It may be a bit more student-friendly to blow, but doesn't slot quite as well as my Strad, IMHO. It is a bit lighter also.
