Holton MF Horn

Holton Trumpet #818xxx
http://www.marshwoodwinds.com/ViewItem.asp?ItemID=1481&

I know this horn is a Holton MF Horn but cant make out the model number. If anyone could help Identify what model Holton this is It would be very helpful. I am trying to figure out if this is one of Holton's extra large bore horns. If it is, this is exactly what I am looking for for exactly the right price.

Re: Holton MF Horn

I don't think this is an MF Horn.

I have owned three of them and NONE of them had the Emblem on the bell.

They all just had MF HORN engraved on the side of the bell.

But I could be wrong....

Re: Holton MF Horn

I'm with solar bell...I play next to a guy on an MF...it doesn't look like that. I've seen several others and they have a strange almost hand done engraving on the side of the bell that says MF HORN...not that medallion looking emblem. Maybe they are a different vintage..but I've never seen one like that.

Re: Holton MF Horn

Sorry...after another look I see the writing on the side of the bell...the only thing different is that emblem on the bell.

Re: Holton MF Horn

Hello, call the owner of pawn shop. See what is stamped on the mouthpiece reciever. It may be one of the later makes of the Holton T101 models. Some of the paper work may still be in it's case. Check Brass Review and see if there is one there that looks like it. It looks to be a Pro-horn,though. Will look through my old Music mags and see if there is one there, that looks like this one. Did you notice the King Legend 2070SP Trumpet for sale on that site? Until

yes, I was going to buy it until my best friend (literally) beat me to it. I didn't have the immediate money and he did. That happens, and when it does, you find a better horn for less money and wave it in his face (joking).

Re: Holton MF Horn

Hello S.M., Looked through my old Music Sales mags. The Holton Maynard 307-308 series have the little Leblanc medallion on the Lead pipe brace. The Holton T101 series will have the stamping on M.P. Reciever, one brace or two braces on lead pipe, with word Symphony etc. engraved on Bell. They are Holton Bach Strad Clones. The Horn you are looking at, is I believe a Holton M.F. Admiral ST550S. In 2004,sold for $669.00,in 2005 sold for $979.00. In those ads I can see that stamped raised Bell engraving, shows only one brace on lead pipe without that little Leblanc medallion etc. If I am correct, and may not be,the Pawn shop broker is asking to much for that Horn. Do a lot of checking out. If this fellow will come off some on the King Legend. I would rather have it. The Legend's are no longer being made and have great reviews on the Brass Review site. I believe Conn Selmer dropped them, because they were hurting the Bach Strad & Conn Vintage I sales. Good luck, let us know what you find out.
