Which Horn?

I've been using a Bach TR200 for a bit over 3 years now and want to get a new horn. I'm set on getting a Yamaha because I've tried out the Bach Strad and just don't really like it. I'm stuck currently between 2 horns, The Yamaha YTR 8335LA(silver, wayne bergeron's horn) and the Yamaha YTR 8335(R)GS. Could someone help me decide on one and why? And if someone know, could someone please explain to me the difference between the 8335RGS and 8335GS?
Thanks in advance

Re: Which Horn?

Cool, new horn time.

Really if you don't know which one you like better we really won;t be able to help much. Just take your time and test them as thoroughly as possible and get someone else's ears (someone you really trust) to listen too. Then find which one you like the best and forget about it and play.

Might depend one style of music you enjoy and you. The 8335LA should be a bit brighter and more of a lead style horn while the RGS will be more of the Strad/Symphonic horn. Gross generalization I know but play them and see what you like better.

Re: Which Horn?

I really don't know which horn I like better. I play in an assortment of settings jazz, field, symphonic, and not to brag or anything, but I do play lead for all except jazz where I split lead. I do realize that the 8335la has a brighter sound and that the 8335rgs and 8335gs have darker sounds. Which of the 3 horns would be better for like an assortment of playing? And again, if somebody could explain to me the difference between 8335rgs and 8335gs, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Which Horn?

In your case for trying to do all three then you consider another model say the 8335S

The GS or RGS broken down means
_ - Epoxy Laquer
S - Silver Plated
G - Gold Brass Bell
R - Heavyweight Reverse Leadpipe

The RGS should be the darkest of all. The LA the brightest.

If you like these horns you might try and find a standard 8335S with the yellow brass bell. Kind of middle of the road which can more easily be bent to Brighter side if needed. Of course a second similar mouthpiece with a different backbore or on cup depth change could easily light up or darken a horn more than the difference between say the 8335 and 8335 RGS. Depending on what you play you could use that to you advantage as well.

Re: Which Horn?

Why don't you plug those model numbers into google and see what you come up with?

Re: Which Horn?

BIG step up in any case. If you do not have a preference after playing both, then it doesn't matter - the horns are equally good!
Flipping a coin is equally qualified as anything we could tell you.
I myself am not big on reversed leadpipes. I find the sound does not hold as well together when I play loud. The reverse leadpipe model may have a slightly easier upper register.

Flip a coin!

Re: Which Horn?

The yamaha xeno is great. The one model has a reverse lead pipe which makes it easier to get the high notes. Trust me, I tried it out at the music store. It's awsome. Good luck.
