I've got mine. Bb Wild Thing Trumpet in silver #22597
I bought it new from Mike's Music (Canada) in July 2001.

I was amazed by the horn from the first test blow of a friends WT. Ordered mine the next day and haven't looked back since.

I own two at the moment (no, neither is for sale either!),

2001 WT Bb trumpet-goldplated, #6435

2002 WT Bb short model cornet-goldplated, #23660

Both of mine are with the original bell markings before Flip got fancy and added the oak tree and fancy lettering to the bell. Mine simply say this on the bell:

FLIP OAKES
WILD THING

These horns make me want to practice! I look forward to "IT" everynight like a newly wed guy looks forward to . . .

Aw heck, I ain't that old . . . I still look forward to THAT too!

Well, after emailing Tom and Bill M. back and forth, I ended up with a Silver Bb. I had been playing a Schilke B1L, B6Lb, and Calicchio 1S-2, and still do now and then, but seem to always come back to the WT. Then I got the bug for a Gold WT. Then I needed a Flip Oakes C for Church. Next was the Silver Flugel, for Big Band jobs, and latest edition is the Silver Short Cornet. The Bb's and Cornet are played every day, and the Flugel and C come out a few times a month.

The Silver WT and Gold WT are 4 numbers apart, and the Cornet has WLID Thing misspelled on the bell. For me, the WT has been the Best
horn I've played. I would encourage anyone looking for a different horn, to play as many as you can, and give the WT a test drive as well.

Hi Flip, Tom, hope all is well with you both. I bought my goldplated Wild Thing about 3 Years ago and I just added the new J Slide last month.
All I can say is wow! I can't put the dang thing down. The horn has such a big core to the sound but when I push it, it sizzles. As if this isn't enough, even though the horn is big, it speaks so easily when you stroke it... but the core is still wide. All kidding aside, the horn makes practicing fun, so consequently you sound great because the horn is so good and then you sound good because you are improving from all the practice. Never before have I gotten as many compliments from the other musicians that I play with. I'm using a NorthernBrass/GR mouthpiece that really lights up the WildThing. What's that you say? This Thing is Wild.

Hi Allan,

You are right about the "J" slides. My WT has one in it almost all the time. I've VERY familiar with the original series and still love 'em but I'm truly enjoying the new series and the unique things it does for the "Thing."

Right now I've got the "J1" in the horn. Wow!

I got my WT in Silver plate from Tony Carter here in England in 2002. People here in England can't get their head around a Trumpet called the 'Wild Thing' - but I still enjoy playing it and they soon hear it.

I own a WT Bb in gold. I bought it used last summer from a guy that seems to always have several. I love the horn. It has a very rich tone in all registers. I was expecting it to be difficult to adjust to, as the bore is larger than other horns I own. I was surprised to find myself making the adjustment rather quickly.

I find it easier to play in the upper register than the Selmer Concept TT, and it is lighter in weight than the TT. The WT does not have as much sizzle as the Lawler STS with the #1 bell, but the WT can produce more volume than the Lawler.

I use Warburton 5m/7* most of the time.

Hey Flip, Tom, Bill and all the rest of the "Wild" gang!

This is my 7th Wild Thing horn I've owned and I do believe it's the best. I've been through 2 gold Bb, 2 silver Bb's, 2 C's- 1 silver and 1 raw brass.

It is unquestionably the finest horn I've played. The tone can whisper one second and cover the orchestra the next. I was worried about projection qualities, hearing how others felt brand C projected better. Sorry guys. I played O Holy Night Christmas Eve services with our 19 piece church orchestra (including 5 trumpets) and was the only one on first. The CD of the tune is amazing - mic's were all the way at the back of the church on the ceiling and it sounded like I was BLOWING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM!

And playing in tune has never been easier, at all volumes. Great valves and what a finish! The gold plating is truly a thing of beauty.

Playing in the upper register is easier than on my smaller bore Besson. The slots above high C are very defined and distinct. The notes to high G just pop out of the horn, perfectly in tune.

Like Tom says, it makes you want to go practice!
