| Re: Hub van Laar Bb Hi Bill Frustrating when nobody responds.....I confess to knowing nothing about these horns so I looked on the website...as I am sure you have. I was amused to see one designed by an architect.....if it plays well it certainly had some interesting visual lines..no prices though. I seem to remember rowuk talking about or owning these horns?? | Fortissimo User | Re: Hub van Laar Bb In the forums over the past year or so there has not been a lot of discussion about Hub's trumpets. There have been some posts regarding his flugels and these all seemed to be quite positive. But if you were to think that there haven't been many responses because not many people have actually tried them (at least in North America) then you might be right! Perhaps you could check some of the European websites. Brass-Forum.co.uk - The Online Home for Brass Musicians is one such devoted to all brass. |

| Re: Hub van Laar Bb Bill, I don't think he turns a lot of trumpets out but interest is growing. I'm planning to go and have a look this summer while I'm in the UK...I'm after a new C trumpet and having read an interview with Jon Lewis sounds like just what I'm after. Not a big orchestral C but a light, bright, focused sound. Doesn't help, I know. Regards, Trevor |

| Re: Hub van Laar Bb I had a raw brass B5 that I played for about a year or so. Copper bell, very nice horn. I ended up selling it because it didn't put out as big a sound as I'd like in big band settings, the bell flare was somewhat narrow. A beautiful focused sound. Just because I eventually got rid of it doesn't meant it wasn't an excellent horn-- using that criteria just about every trumpet would be bad because I tend to run through a lot of different horns (for the fun of it). You've really got to watcth the copper bell because its soft, easy to ping. Top notch horns, I'd love try the flugel some day. |
