| Fortissimo User | Idea for a new horn I saw a unique trumpet on Ebay SC Rembrandt Trumpet Custom Made by Joe Marcinkiewicz - (eBay item 180148200534 end time Aug-18-07 14:50:38 PDT) and thought it would be nice to do the gold with silver trim on horns, as this is the only one I have ever seen like that. I have a lot to learn about trumpets and metal working if I ever plan to truely start out on my own, but I think it would be cool to see horns similar to this. Horns that are more unique than the regular all silver or brass. I like the look of the gold and silver, brass and copper, and other unique combos that people dont see so much. I was thinking of something with a .460 to .462 bore, reverse lead pipe and tuning slide, minimal bracing, amado spit valve, stainless steel valves (i heard they are faster and last longer than Monel, is it true?) mother of pearl valve buttons, Gold with Silver trim and engraving, or silver with copper bell. for a truely unique look. I have a hand drawn engraving Idea already. It would be called a Gabriel Trumpet. The engraving is of an Angel with wings spread out and playing a trumpet, in the opening between the tips of the wings in a calligraphic style would be Gabriel. I will try to get a picture up if I can find a good place to scan it. I have not decided on bell flare yet, nor if it would be bottom sprung, or top sprung with the casing. I am aiming for more of a dark sound for symphonic/ orchestral/ church music. I am working on other ideas for Jazz, Lead playing. The problem is, I have no idea how to get started. I don't know anything about metal working, other than I don't know how to do it. I wouldn't mind it being a one off horn for me, but would much rather be able to make a profit off of it by being able to sell to the masses. I wouldn't expect to be the next Monette, Eclipse, or Wild Thing, I would probably end up like ZeuS (except without the negative advertising to sell my horns)

| Fortissimo User | Re: Idea for a new horn Yeah, but I want to be able to start my own brand and maybe one day, make a profit from them. Not to mention, I don't have money for that kind of horn, I am in college after all, lol.

A good one would be Bob Barclay's natural trumpet building course. It only takes a week and you get some great insight into what works. After that you will know more about what is involved. www.trumpetmaker.com * Historical brass instruments * Michael Münkwitz and then click on workshops. Another link would be: Natural Horns by Richard Seraphinoff These courses happen every year.
