![]() | Image vs.Kanztul Flugelhorns On good authority I hear that Kanztul makes the best flugelhorn. Probably true as the two that I've played kick the tar out of my own King. King Flugels are a pieces of junk. But most flugels are anyway. The average flugel does not slot a High C well enough to play in public. And the first ledger line A is usually flat. So it's like taking a piece of plumbing in front of an audience and hoping to heaven that something good will happen. A scary place. Well luckily the Kanztul flugel does slot a nice High C and D. And the A tunes on the money with the best tone throughout all registers I've ever heard played through a flugel anywhere. Unfortunately the one I looked at cost more than three grand. Well over actually. That's a whole ton of dough for a secondary fiddle. Introducing the Image DFUG flugelhorn: $556.50 new no case. The best thing to come out of Mainland China yet. Always bugs me to support or buy anything Chinese since they tried (unsucessfully) to kill my dog last year. Tainted food. But the Image is the real deal. Tone nearly as sweet as the Kanztul and it even slots a good solid High F. Something I've never heard a flugel do before. Not that one needs that note on the Flugel mind you. However with a solid functional F on the horn you can believe that the High D (needed in Chuck Mangione pieces) will be there every time. I'm taking one to concert in a few weeks. Not the Kanztul. I refuse to own any horn worth more than my second car. So try the Image if you're on a budget. Or even if you aren't. It projects better than the Kanztul. Slots better too. Even if the Kanztul does have a slightly sweeter tone. Projection is very important in a commercial/rock band which is where the Flugelhorn usually gets played. In every area the Image is either as good as or a close second than the Kanztul. And in some cases even better. Last edited by Wildfox; 08-11-2008 at 02:38 PM. |

Uhhhh.....I don't know where you live, but I see MANY more flugelhorns being played for jazz, big bands, or show work than in rock bands where "projection is important". This whole piece seems like it was written by a shill for the 'Image' company to me.... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Image vs.Kanztul Flugelhorns You can keep your Chinese flugelhorn....and on who's good authority do you say Kanstul makes the best flugelhorns. A lot of guys who are "Good Authorities" would contest that statement. -cw-

![]() | Re: Image vs.Kanztul Flugelhorns Wildfire, Do you any names or references to share from those using Image? Seems that if Image is better than Kanstul in some areas, the "flock of flugelhorn" players ought to be buying Image and saving their hard earned cash for accessories. Just wondering? Best wishes, Lloyd |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Image vs.Kanztul Flugelhorns I've played some great flugels over the years, and nobody has cornered the market. A flugel that slots well doesn't sound as sexy as the ones that don't. If you like the DFUG, that is fine. We usually don't bash horns here unless they are badly made, or badly out of tune and uhh, Kanstul makes some fine instruments. They are well built and do what they are supposed to. I too, like the idea of not paying more for a flugel than a used car (or a Harley!), but a good instrument can last a lifetime, and I prefer knowing that my horn will make it through the next gig--not all horns can make that claim, and especially the "upstarts." Have fun!

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Image vs.Kanztul Flugelhorns Which Kans(z)tul costs over $3K? The copper-belled ZKF1525 is closer to $2K, even less if you find a deal. I also immediately found the OP fishy.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Image vs.Kanztul Flugelhorns I could not find a Kanztul on Google, nor an "Image" flugelhorn, except images of other folk's flugels (including the Kanstul!). Weird.
