Re: instrument insurance

Clarion Associates, Inc.| Insurance Firm dedicated to Musicians (I think).
They are THE best.
If you're a member of ITG or the AFM you get a discount as well.

I use them and they are amazing.

Re: instrument insurance

This is one of the most useful threads we have had in a long time.

My State Farm agent is clueless on insuring instruments and guns.

Thank you. I'll get on this.

It is super simple to join ITG via the internet.

Re: instrument insurance

Ditto on Trent.

I previously had a few of my collection on my "homeowners" policy, but that does not cover "pro" use at all, (school use was OK). I heard about Clarion on this site...and have insured every horn in my collection for a very small amount (considering). Good people. Horns (or any instrument) is insured for whatever reason/use; essentially no fine print. heck...I even listed my bagpipe on my insured inventory.

Arrow Re: instrument insurance

Greetings!

Hopefully this post will prove informative!

I wanted to also provide Anderson Insurance Services as another insurance alternative.

The rates are competitive (.525 per $100) and the program works well for freelance musicians (no association membership required.)

I work for this agency but actually work mainly with harpists! However our musical instrument department is well versed and very knowlegable when it comes to musicians and musical instruments since Peter Anderson, owner, has a background in music as well as others in the office (me too!)

I think this goes a long way with other musicians since we aren't just "trained" for musical instrument insurance...we actually understand and know!

Anyway, I don't want to make this too long! Thought it might be helpful for others out there to know there is another source for musical instrument insurance. We not only have products for Freelance Musicians, there are products for Jazz Musicians, Orchestras and Symphonies and more!

The policy provides worldwide coverage and is written on a very broad policy form, providing coverage for what musicians are looking for (not just what a home policy will cover! i.e., fire, lightning, wind, etc.!)

On that note, you may be interested in reviewing our Homeowners versus Musical Instrument Policy information on our site. There are MAJOR gaps in coverage on your homeowner's policy, which is why it's very important to cover your instrument on a policy designed specifically for it!

Please feel free to take a look at the site for more information and an online application!

Anderson Group - Musical Instrument Insurance, Personal Umbrella, Business Insurance, Commercial Insurance

(Just follow the links to Musical Instrument Insurance!)

Thanks so much for your time!

Christina

Re: instrument insurance

Not sure I understand your post. IS the homeowner's rider fine for those of us who do not play professionally?

Re: instrument insurance

I apologize, sometimes there's too much information so it does get confusing!

You should really check with your homeowner's company or agent and ask these questions:
  • Is my instrument covered for replacement cost (NOT actual cash value)
  • What perils are my instrument covered for?
  • If my instrument drops and breaks, is this covered?
  • What is the deductible if there is a loss with my instrument?
  • What IF I use my instrument to play for hire and something happens, will my coverage respond?
  • What IF I use my instrument to play outside of my home (in a group, at a church, for a friend, etc.) but do not get paid and something happens, will my coverage respond? (Away from Residence)
The answers to those questions should help you decide if your homeowner's policy is covering your instruments the way you really want them to be.

If any of the answers to the above aren't to your liking then you may want to look into a specialized musical instrument policy. The rates are probably the same if not less but you get better coverage.

Hope that helps!

:)

Re: instrument insurance

Ask your homeowners insurance agent about adding a marine policy to your insurance. Mine are covered in this way and have never had a problem. This is only an addition to your homeowners policy.
