![]() | Intermediate Trumpet? I am looking for a new trumpet for my 12 year old son. He has been playing for 3 years on a beginner rental, and I'd like to find something at the next level. We've looked at a couple of Getzen trumpets (the Capri 590 and the 770sp), and the Bach TR200 and the Intermediate Yamaha. I'm a violinist, so the brass world is new to me. Any suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks! |

| Forte User | Re: Intermediate Trumpet? As Stomvi has been mentioned lets mention some other european intermediate horns.. Courtois makes excellent intermediate horns, Yamaha are worthy digging, and the Schagerl superior horns are not too bad either. The idea of second hand pro horn is however quite reasonable.

![]() | Re: Intermediate Trumpet? I agree with the second hand pro idea. In most cases, certainly not all, you can pick up a used pro horn cheaper than a new intermediate model. Then if your son sticks with the trumpet he already has a horn that will last him well into college and if he gives up on it, your re-sale will be better than with and intermediate. Used Bach Strads go cheap all day long... |

![]() | Re: Intermediate Trumpet? The Getzen 700SP is a nice horn IMHO, my tutor played one professionally for about 18 years even though it is known as an Intermediate trumpet. As a section player though, I feel that the 700SP didn't provide ME with enough feedback although the valves are simply wonderful - I switched to a second hand Getzen 900 (lacquered rather than silver plated) - which is considered a professional instrument, and I now get the information that I need from my instrument. It could also be possible that the good horn is giving me more confidence than I had and the result is a change in me rather than the change in trumpet. Whatever the reason, the silverplated Getzens are a little more robust than the lacquered instruments, and that is good for a younger player - but the Getzen valves are always great, and have a lifetime warranty. My 700SP cost me US$595.00 @ Washingtom Music Center in 2000, and like most music stores they treated me very well (understand that all was done over the phone, or by email, as I am located in the great Land of Oz - the Land Down-under).
