Schwab has a spectacular aura about
Jinbao pic

I've been in Dallas for the past couple weeks, and had the good fortune to meet up with davidelf who has some of the new Jinbao pics, the copy of the Yamaha 9820. He was kind enough to let me check one out today, I put it through its paces and played it on half a song on the show that has ridiculous high exposed hits.

The pic is good, I had a problem playing it up to pitch, but that isn't necessarily a design flaw, I've had that problem with other horns as well, the most expensive one being a Yamaha 9335NYS I tried out, so I'm pretty sure that flaw is ME.

The build quality is good too, with nice smooth valves, all the solder joints are clean and the silverplating is looks fine. The Bb leadpipe didn't fit well in the receiving tube, it was too small and did not fit snugly. I felt like the intonation on the Bb side was a little squirrely, probably due to the poor fit of leadpipe.

The A side of the pic is quite good! It has a nice even sound and good intonation top to bottom. The horn is a .459 bore and feels nice and open, it wasn't hard to switch from it to the big Bb with only a few bars in between.

So that is about all, at under $400 it is a pretty darn good deal, perhaps an Osmun or Blackburn leadpipe would fix up the Bb side. Check out the pics here:
