![]() | Kanstul Chicago Hi Folks I Recently Went On My Bi Annual Pilgrimage To Chuck Levins To Try Horns. I Tried The Kanstul Chicago Trumpet [based On The Old Chicago Benge] And Really Liked It. It Was Easy To Blow, Great Tone, Intonation And Seemed To Be Very Well Crafted. I Wanted To Know If Anyone Else On The Site Has Tried It And What Their Opinion Was Of The Horn. Also If Any One Has Tried The Copper Bell Kanstul [1500 I Think] And How They Would Compare It To The Chicago. I Went To The Kanstul Web Site And Felt That The Description And Information On The Playing Characteristics Was Very Limited. By The Way I Already Own The Kanstul 1525 Flugelhorn And I Really Love It.

I've played tested the CHI 1001 about a year ago. because of the time lapse I don't have any great detail to share but, i remember thinking it was very nice! I felt like it played really well for a .464 bore horn. i didn't even notice it was a big bore until i looked later. it had a great "standard" type trumpet sound, pretty classic. my good friend plays the copper 1500 and REALLY LOVES IT. he is strictly a jazz combo player though and likes it for that application. i have not personally tried it yet. we live in different states.... i prefer to play classical tpt. so, i don't think the 1500 would be quite what i want but, i'd love to try it for fun.

![]() | Re: Kanstul Chicago I owned a MLP Chicago a while ago and thought it was a very good trumpet. It was immediately familiar to anyone who has played one of the older Benges and I thought it was quite a versatile horn with that typical Benge feel. Made by Kanstul so it was well put together. However, I haven't played the other model. Regards, Trevor |

![]() | Re: Kanstul Chicago As Camelbrass said, a very versatile horn. I have owned one for many years and it does play like my old 2x MLP Benge but better in tune. The valve work good and depending on what mouthpiece you use as to the sound you will get. I use mine for commerical work and have Bob Reeves make mine for me. I use a 43 or 43.5 rim with either a M or S underpiece with a 69 backbore. I wouln't be afraid to use the Chicago for any job. Hope this helps you in your travels for a new horn. |

![]() | Re: Kanstul Chicago I used to own a Kanstul Chicago and it was a great all around horn. I had tried the ML 1000 model and the MLP 1001 model and I ended up liking the ML bore better. Like any horn I would play-test the one you want to buy because I have found them to be a little inconsistent. As far as the Bergeron Model, which is now called the 1600 Model and has nothing to do with evaluating the Chicago Model it is a fine horn and still is one of Kanstuls best selling models. Mike

![]() | Re: Kanstul Chicago Hi Friends: Kanstul Chicago 1001 Is my Primary Horn. Is a Benge 464 clone with the Kanstul Improvemens in Valve Short Throw. It'a a very free blowing horn, beter entonation in the C# D and Eb and well centered in projection and Bright Sound That I love. I pay for mine 3 years ago 1395 in silver. Well The best Horn i have try after mine is the Yamaha Chicago Bb. Its a terrific horn for 3300 dollars. If you have the chance to try the Chicago is like you buy a New Burbank or early LA Benge with Improvements You Cant go wrong. Just try in the show and choose the best.

![]() | Re: Kanstul Chicago I played and owned a Kanstul Chicago 1047 for about two or three years and thought it was a very nice Bb except for the fact it had a very poor bottom range. This eventually caused me to sell the horn. |

![]() | Re: Kanstul Chicago Great reading guys, I've had a chicago for 8 years now and am thinking of something bigger, I'm in Melbourne and everyone here is raving about the schargerls but I'm not convinced. I still love my Kanstul really opens up up the top and as I use a 1BX with a #3 Back-bore I don't real have any trouble getting it to speak down low. I suppose I'm looking for something that's going to respond more to big air, lots of volume without breaking up. I'm feeling like the Chicago breaks up on me when I really ask it to project before it should. (I play in some crazy loud bands) Any suggestions as to what to try out, I'll be touring in NYC and the better prepared I am the more I can try between gigs. Cheers, Paul
