SeanP has a spectacular aura about
Kanstul F. Besson C trumpets

Hi everyone,

I'm after some comments an opinions on the Kanstul made F. Besson C trumpets - specifically the Meha and Classic (with Najoom lead pipe) models.
Has anyone played these? If so, what were your impressions in terms of blow, resistance, response and sound/tone colour?
I am looking for an instrument which will serve me as another weapon in the arsenal for both orchestral and solo work - I normally play a Schilke X3, which whilst I love it does not blend quite as well as my old Bach Strad for some types of playing.
I have tried Bach Strad 239 which was OK, but seemed to me to be quite stuffy/resistive at the top, maybe it was just that one? I have also tried a Yamaha Xeno which was also OK, I just didn't particularly like the sound too much - is it just me or do Yamahas tend to have a sound of their own? I have never played a C in anger (always have used the Bb and transposed) so this would be my first shot at playing one properly.
I have a F. Bessson piccolo which I absolutely love which is why I'm asking about the F. Besson C trumpets.

Many thanks,

SeanP

Re: Kanstul F. Besson C trumpets

I tried them at conventions, and they sound very close to Bach with the intonation and response of a Yamaha. They are no longer made unfortunatly, so you would have to find them used. When they were in production they were a really terrific buy.
