    Kanstul MAR 990 Trumpet

I recently played the Kanstul MAR 990 Trumpet at the Kanstul Showroom in Anaheim, California and really enjoyed playing it. I wanted to get some feedback about the trumpet from some of my trumpet brothers who have either played one or own one.

    Thanks!

    Re: Kanstul MAR 900 Trumpet

I played one at a local music shop. Sometimes I think it is the best horn I ever played. It had very easy response. My inderstanding is that it is a reproduction with a few improvements of the classic Conn Constellation -think Maynard and others played such in their early years.

At any rate, I have promised my wife no more horns -but if one came up for sale for a great price, I might just have to consider it.

    Re: Kanstul MAR 900 Trumpet

    (EDITED)

Rob, you're either referring either to their 900, or their 990/991 (Mariachis or Kanstulations)?

I think Steve and I both thought you were referring to the Kanstulation or "Mariachi" models -- their 990 and 991. If so, I've sensed a split-decision among those who own or have played a 38B: some prefer the original to the Kanstul, others not. Some recent discussion at TH about this. I've not tried one, but plan to on my next visit to the K showroom.

If you're referring to their 900, I did try out it out and it's a fine horn. However, it didn't seem too much different from my 700S, except that it has a reverse mouthpipe, which may make it feel a tad bit more open. But, the 700S also plays and sounds terrific and, to me, exceeds my conception of how an "intermediate" horn plays and sounds.

My favorites from my 1st visit to the Kanstul showroom: 1537-P, "X", and 1600 (WB).

    Bruin,

You lost me. Are there 2 different 900s by Kanstul? I thought there was a 900 and 901 (think the 901 has more silver on it) was the Marriachi (Constellation clone)? Is there another 900? Also, was the horn that Kanstul copied the 38B? Trying to learn. Thanks.

Steve, there's a 900 which is similar to their other .460" bore horns, then there's the smaller-bore .437" 990 and 991 models that are based on the Connstellation 38B:

    Re: Kanstul MAR 900 Trumpet

Sorry for the typo, I just corrected it. You guys are right. It is the 990 not 900 I was talking about. When I go back down to Kanstul in Anaheim, I want to play it some more, but this time with heavy bottom caps and then make my decision. I liked their other trumpets and narrowed it down to the ZKT 1500a Signiture Series, CHI 1001 Chicago Series and the Mar 990 Mariachi Standard.

Since I already have a large bore (BACH) and medium large bore (Recording) I figured if I would add another trumpet to my stable at this stage and since I liked all 3, it would be the small bore. I would like to get all 3 if someone knows any of the future the winning lottery numbers.

    Re: Kanstul MAR 900 Trumpet

I've got to learn to read more carefully. 900 and 9 9 0. I was reading both as the number 900 and wondering what in the world.

Anyway, it is the 991 that I would love to own.

Thanks for the link Bruin. By the way, when it opens the Kanstul 1537 is the horn advertised --which it the horn I just got three days ago. Kanstul can build a Bach better than Bach.
