Re: King Librety Trumpet

Generally awesome horns if in good shape. Some had multicolored gold and silver layouts.

Lots of info at the site:
H N White Trumpets: Liberty, Master, 2-B, Super 20, Silver Flair.

I believe oldlou (forum member) is an expert.

Re: King Librety Trumpet

I have a LIberty that is one of the 1932 Models from just prior to the Liberty #2 in 1933. It's really fun to play and most of them have some nice engraving. Mine has seen better days, it was owned by my wife's great aunt's 2nd husband (she's out lived 3 of them so far - currently unmarried guys).
This guy played around Cincinnati in some big bands but worked as a chiropractor for his "real" job. The horn when I got it had a hole in the 2nd valve slide, that he duck taped rather than having it fixed and the lead pipe had a twist in it from where he removed a stuck mouthpiece with a vice grip. Aunt Anne kept wanting to get him a new horn, but he knew he couldn't replace his horn (money wasn't an issue for them). You still would have thought that he would have had it repaired.
I spent $200 to have the slides unstuck, the hole fixed and the leadpipe untwisted.
It does seem to have some intonation issues, but really a cool old horn.

Someone else listed a link to H N White Company Makers of King Band Instruments 1893-1965 where you can find out more about a Liberty Trumpet. With the serial number you should be able to figure out about when it was made.

Re: King Librety Trumpet

Look at your strad. The 3rd valve dump slide has two sections, one above the other, which are about 1/4" long and inside of which the tubing which slides in and and out of the rest of the slide is soldered. So if you remove the dump section and look at it, the greased tubing fits into those collars and is fastened inside them.
There needs to be a similar set of collars on your King. If there aren't, or there are just "rings" that separate the bent U from the rest, there is no removable piece.

Yes, the original third slide on a Liberty is has two pieces. If it doesn't move it is because it is stuck. It is highly unlikely that the original would have been replaced with a one piece slide because it would be next to impossible to find one that would fit.
