King Silver Flair 2055S

Wow! It has been a long time since I've posted here lol. But here we go.

I know of a few people here that have played Silver Flairs and a couple of you even own them. I would like to know what your general synopsis of this horn is. I am purchasing one right now and would just like to hear what you guys like/dislike about this horn. I understand there will be variation throughout the years of the way the horns play, but just the general overview is what I would like. Thanks!

I was the one who took Mr. G to try this horn out, among other brands nearby. If I'd have had the money on-hand, I would have walked out of that store with the horn.

Everything about that horn plays just amazingly. Fat lower register, full upper register, a sound as full and present as a Strad, but more "Rounded," is the best explaination. The notes didnt break no matter how hard I blew.

Now, here is what I concern myself with: was that particular horn a freak super horn, or are these horns consistent sleepers in the trumpet world?

I will use the following from the cliche thread...

2. Don't focus so much on equipement -- just worry about making music.

Pretty good eh?

If you could have played the incompetent equipment I was playing you would understand that making music was second to actually making the horn play. Yeah, it was pretty bad.

That cliche' thread will work just fine!

Out of curiosity, is it a vintage Flair, or a newer one?

I had a student with a newer one that was a pretty good horn. I think the newer Kings are pretty good values.

It was a brand new model, right out of the wrapping.

Just an amazing horn, especially for the $950.00 price tag.

The only other King I had ever played before this was an old Cleveland. Nothing that lit any fires for me. I have always heard good things about the Silver Flairs, but never anything about the NEW ones.

Played this particular horn against Cannonball, Yamaha, and Stradivarius. Best horn of the day, hands down.

We played a lot of horns and I mean we played a LOT. We played nearly every horn in both stores. But, I guess a mod can lock this seeing as how nobody is gonna give there opinion and go to the cliche list.

The only UMI SF's that I have played were second rate horns.

I just got this one from a store that went out of business. It is the best one that I have ever played.

Great horn!

Ok, here goes...

It is hard to give an honest opinion to someone who has already purchased a horn.

If I go shopping with my wife and she looks at dresses, I can say which ones I do or do not like.
If she goes shopping and buys a dress, puts it on at home and says "Honey, I just bought this dress and I LOVE it! Isn't it beautiful?" What am I going to say?????

You purchased a horn and then asked what we thought of it.

In reality, most advanced and pro players on this site would probably not consider a new model King Silver Flair. The old King Silver Flairs were very good horns. (the White Co. horns) ((I have owned four of them))The new ones made by UMI and whomever is making them now, have gotten less than stellar reviews.

If you found a horn that you are happy with, then we are all happy for you!

Go forth and BLOW MAN!!!!! Make music and prosper!
