| Lawler TL6R-1A Mikester New Member member is offline Posts: 7 TL6R-1a « Thread started on: 10/11/2003 at 21:21:32 » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone. I have owned 3 Lawler trumpets (2 26B-1a's and a 21B-1a). Currently, I am Lawler-less. Don't know for how long though. The new models are also very nice! Since Bruce's TL6R-1a is in high demand, he could not loan it to me. So, I went down to Mobile for the Trumpet-fest. I kept playing the TL6R-1a. It sounded great! and the intonation was very good (like all Lawlers I have tried). I play one of Jerry Callet's last Jazz horns (great horn!). Looking for something to contrast with it. The TL6R-1a has its own unique charateristics. Could fit the bill. By the way, Bruce's current TL6R is "scratched then lacquered". Very appealing look. Bob O. had led us in MF's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down". At the end of the weekend, I was playing the openning line on a few horns. He commented on how good it sounded on the TL6R-1a. I trust his ears. Just my 2 cents. Mike |

The 3rd horn I tried was the TL6r-1a. The moment I picked it up I knew it was special. I used it to compare my Schilke B5 and every other trumpet at the fest. I just couldn't put it down. I think certain horns match players. I personally think I have found my match. Not that I wouldn't mind a Schilke B1 falling in my lap someday. But I think it would be a back up. Dan |

Tim80 just brought his newest Ebay purchase by for a test run. It is a very nice almost mint 1961 Olds Recording. We both took turns playing it and my TL6r-1a. It was very interesting how well the rose brass bells matched in tone. The Olds was slightly brighter and bigger tone. While the Lawler has a larger spectrum of sound. I thought it was interesting to match the Lawler up with a classic Olds. I think the TL6R actually matched up with another of Tim's Ebay purchases, a 1954 Martin Committee small bore. I think the warm tone was very similar to that horn but the Lawler was easier to light up. |
