Looking for a brasswind store in N.Y.

Hi!

I'm about to buy a flugelhorn from N.Y. and I'd like to know more about good stores where I could buy one. I live in Finland (Helsinki) and I'm coming to the Big Apple in january. It would be nice to have some sort of knowledge about the stores beforehand to spare some time...

Thanks!

Sam Ash N.Y.C. and Rayburns. You could also take a 30mi ride over to Dillions in Woodbridge N.J..The best place to try out horns around.Just pick and play, real friendly. They also have a huge selection of used and vintage horns.

I am so jealous that I don't live in New York or close to it! I am looking for a trumpet right now and it is hard to find good deals in Vancouver because it is not a jazz city. It's also hard to find trumpets to try here!

You are insane. Vancouver has a fantastic jazz scene. It is the place to be in western canada. Vancouver Montreal and Toronto are the three big jazz centers in Canada.
There are many music stores in Vancouver and Victoria to choose from. Long and McQuade can get you any horn they carry from any location they have. Prussin sells horns I think and I know there are more, I just can't think of the names.

Re: Looking for a brasswind store in N.Y.

Yes, my main place to go is Long and McQuade, but it is just hard to find the trumpet to try! They are not going to ship a trumpet from Toronto just for me to try! And usually big stores like that are hard to negotiate with, and it is hard to find decent used trumpets. Most of them are student models from those silly people who buy student models. If anyone from Vancouver sees this, please point out any good stores I can look into? I have been doing a lot of shopping and I think the best place to buy from is WWBW but I have to find the right trumpet first. Haven't had the time to try the Yamaha 8335 I was looking at, very busy right now as school has just started.
