No two instruments from that era play the same. Back then, instruments could be built with individual character. Today consistency seems to be at the top of the list.Originally Posted by Dragon98987

I have a '49 Committee and a '40 Handcraft Committee. These two particular horns are very similar. My Handcraft is a little more open in the upper register and a little darker, the '49 is a little brighter up top, but the difference isn't huge. I love both of them and would be happy with either if I could keep only one.... but I'd rather keep them both ;) Now, I did spend the money to have a valve job done on the Handcraft version, so I guess I'd keep it if push came to shove.
