![]() | Definitely go with the Committee. The older Martin you're asking about isn't really up to modern standards. I don't think you'd be happy with it as a player.

![]() | Unless you are collecting all the Martin models... to collect, not play... do not buy the Dansant. They are not great players. The Committee is one of the sweetest horns ever made.... hard to find in decent shape for less than $1500. I own a 1946, and i would not sell it for that. I have had a Dansant. It is the next step up from a pea-shooter. The only Handcraft models I would advise are the Handcraft Imperial and Committee from the 1930s. Excellent horns. Imperials can still be purchased for $400-500. Handcraft Committes in good original condition... $2000 and UP! One needs to check carefully for red rot, leadpipe especially. |

![]() | How "bad" is Dansant? The Dansant--is it better than a student horn? I need an upgrade and have a dansant available to me. Would that be OK to upgrade from a student horn to a Dansant? Are you saying it's not great from a professional standpoint, or a "lay" player's view?

![]() | You might be better hanging in there with the student horn. My impression playing one at an antique store was that it played very tight and small and was just an old fashioned trumpet. Most good student horns today play much better and will be more like the pro horn you get down the road.

![]() | Hmm... Well, I'll have to test that myself. I thought I was going to have to buy the Dansant, but it was GIVEN to me. SO, nothing wrong with trying it out, is there? I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth too much. Maybe I can give an opinion on how it plays for me once I get it ready (it needs some cleaning and oiling)!
