Re: Maynard on equipment Maynard's sound improved with the Monette horn. I can remember several shows where we would be in the back row just AMAZED at his shear power and rich sound. One night in particular at The Blue Note in NYC, he peeled he paint off the wall with a screaming B on "But Beautiful". Great video -

Re: Maynard on equipment Unless Monette went to a larger size for Mayn after I left the band, he was playing an 18... he gave me one of his spares (which is locked up in my safe) to try... I can't get anything out of it. He was an absolute one of a kind!

Re: Maynard on equipment The shanks are shorter on a Monette mpc than a more traditional model...which has something to do with "why" such a large throat is usable. That short shank provides the balance against it. Try a 16 throat on a Bach mpc with a normal length shank...the results, most likely, will be detrimental. Still, it's evident that Maynard gravitated to large equipment over the years and he felt comfortable with it. Short, but nice interview..
