Monette 61 C Trumpet

hey,
do you have any opinions on the Monette 61 C Trumpets? I am interested in purchasing one and I am curious what you all think of the horns...
Intonation?
Dark Sound?
Blends With other Trumpets?
Projection?
How does it compare with other C horns you have tried (better/worse in your opinion)?
Thanks!
OTS

PS Sorry, again, if anyone is reading this for the second time

OTS-

Here is what the Monette site says about their updated version of the 61:
Quote:
149XL Bb and 61X C Trumpets

Features:

* Excellent entry-level instruments.
* Rich, full sound.
* Secure response.
* Our lowest-priced instruments.
* New, updated 5 1/8" diameter bell.

We have reintroduced these classic Monette models as entry-level instruments. They are designed to be played with our standard STC-1 weight mouthpieces. With new, updated 5 1/8" bells, along with improved layout and bracing, these instruments sound fuller and more open, and are even more forgiving to play than the original designs made back in the 1980s. Many times these are the best choice for professionals or serious students who want a faster, more secure feel and a richer, more consistent sound than they can find in instruments avail-able at music stores. Available in raw brass or brushed 24k gold finish.
If you're thinking about buying a used one, get the serial number and call up the shop to get the history on the horn. Remember that these horns are built to order, for individuals. No Raja is created equally, you might say.

-Jimi

Yeah, I tried one.

They are "darker", and maybe, "more powerful" (?) than other "C" horns (I own five).

If it were to be my only horn, I'd consider acquiring one; but, in my case, I am a "hopeless horn junkie" -- I would rather have a lot of miscellaneous horns for the same money.

I use my own chosen mouthpiece, by-the-way. After about 20-years of trying almost everything (I have about 100), I am not going to allow another "marketing arm" to inform me what I should use. Screw 'em.
It's like General Motors telling me I have to use Goodyear tires (only) on their products.

By-the-way, I (and another "music guy") said I sounded "pretty good" with my mouthpiece ... not so, with the Monette mouthpiece. The horn is good.

try a horn before you buy one that expensive... i've played one and it was good but not good enough to spend 9,000$ more than a pro getzen... but getzen seems to fit me better than any other brand of horns has. i've liked every getzen horn that i've played

I remember Andy Balio playing on a 61X silver plated in the Baltimore SO when he got here in 2001. He sounded fantastic. Probably my favorite Monette trumpet sound. Then he went to a gold STC C which I bought from him (and have since sold because it was built short for him) and then a silver Prana C before going to a Bach C. The 61X was a very powerful sound.

I play a Monette 61X C trumpet and I absolutely love it. I like that it has the beautiful Monette sound and intonation but is not so heavy so as to sound strange when played in sections with non-Monette equipment. One thing I really enjoy about my 61X is that it is soooo even throughout the range of the horn. You don't get any notes that stand out because of weird intonation or timbre differences. If you get one, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. On a related note, my orchestra has purchased a matching set of Monette 993s and they just arrived today. I guess I'll be playing a new horn at the Christmas concert!
