Dan,

I played one for a few minutes last week in Portland. It was the easiest horn to play I've every tested at Dave's. The mid-shank felt great and it wasn't even the size I normally use. I don't even know what it was but geez, it was easy as heck to play.

Hello Maine Trumpet. You can read a brief reveiw and impressions under another thread I wrote called "My recent Trumpet Safari." Both horns are world class. I really love both but find myself playing the Getzen alot more. I think it has to do with the open "0" pipe I have on the Getzen? The horn is an amazing ballad smoky jazz horn with a Monette B1-1Fl.

Thanks for the info. Manny.

Do you know if Dave will post pictures of these Mid Shank Mouthpieces on his site? Are they available as Prana's? He really needs to stop coming up with new and improved gear as it's a killer on the wallet ha.

Has Monette completely ditched some of the classics? Are they still going to produce the 61X C and 149XL B-flat?

I bet they would still build a 149XL if you wanted them too bad enough.

My Monette C is a C997. When I ordered it, they did not have the C997 in the catalogue, but I told them I had played a C937 and that I had the serial number and wanted an exact copy of that horn. They were very accomidating.

A few years ago, I talked to Dave about building an STC1 E-flat, like the original Monette E-flat that Charlie Schlueter has. He said he would do it, but only in a Prana configuration, which pushed the price out of my range.

So, my experience is that they are a custom trumpet company and will build you the trumpet you want, but as Tom Rainey told me, "In the end, it's whatever Dave wants to do."

-Jimi
