Re: Monette Sighting at INDY??

Sgt. Byron Bartosh of the Indiana National Guard has played taps at the Indy 500 since 2006, he plays a Monette.

Re: Monette Sighting at INDY??

When I saw it it looked like a Monette. When I heard how stuffy the sound was that confirmed it.

What I really liked was the fact that he is ARMY and played perfectly.

Re: Monette Sighting at INDY??

My very first solo performance in front of more than a few people was playing taps. It's a hard gig. Can we all agree that, no matter who played it, what they played it on, or even what the quality of performance was, the most important thing is the honoring of those who gave their lives in service to our country? Manny's last remaining post, almost exactly a year ago, is apropos.

To all the commanders from the days of Valley Forge, to all the grunts In Iraq that lay in wait of the enemy not knowing whether they would see the next dawn, to the airmen that flew over Germany through smoke not being able to see the target with sites set only on completing their mission, to the sailors in the South Pacific that pumped water to keep the ship from sinking just long enough for the gunners to bring down a few more zeroes, to the leathernecks that fought hand-to-hand for their lives in Southeast Asia and in so doing fought for my life here, safe at home...

Thank you for your sacrifice. I promise to never let your battle go for naught.

Amen.

It is kind of nice that it was played on an American trumpet, though.

Yes, Taps is a tough gig.

As mentioned in another thread the Coca-Cola 600 also had taps but I only heard the last notes but they sounded great. I had muted the sound when bag pipers came on and started reading a book.

The TV show from Washington D.C. featured a Marine who played the Marine Corp version of Taps.

It just wouldn't be right to play it on a Schagerl rotary, would it?

Re: Monette Sighting at INDY??

Yeah the gig might be even more challenging when you know millions of people are watching. How many of us can say that we've been in similar situations?
