monettes on wrong key

Anybody have any experience with playing monettes on a key which it was not intended for? Example, playing a B1-2 on c trumpet or piccolo. HOw does it work? Is it as bad a monette says or not bad at all? DOes it depend on the C trumpet?

What I have experienced with that is that it messes up the partials a LOT. I accidently switched my B4 and C4 and almost went crazy because I thought it was me...

haha

Yes, I've had the same experience putting in a similar-looking mouthpiece and for the first few minutes it's okay but a little brighter than usual. Then, the instability creeps in and I start having to compensate. Then I look down and slap my forehead.

What about piccolo? I have heard of guys playing big Bb trumpet mpcs on piccolo.

So manny are you using prana slap mouthpieces exclusively for all your trumpets?

I don't like the big mouthpieces on piccolo especially if you're going to play in upper register ( L. Mozart, Telemann). It's going to be out of tune, at least to my ears it is.

Eventually, I'll switch over evrything to the slap models, yes.

I borrowed a friend's Monette C trumpet mouthpiece for a few days a couple years ago. I tried it on both Bb and C and didn't find an appreciable difference between the two horns. Perhaps the impact of using a mouthpiece for the wrong keyed instrument is more pronounced when using a Monette trumpet.

I found that using the wrong mouthpiece causes little tuning problems.
The farther off you are the bigger the problem. B flat mouthpiece in the E flat trumpet doesn't work at all. B flat mouthpiece in the C trumpet works ok but not as good as the correct one.

I didn't have a piccolo mouthpiece for a long time so I used my B flat mouthpiece. It worked but when I finally got the correct mouthpiece it really worked.

The answer is; They all will work just like a student horn will work if it has to.
If you want the best result use the best match you can.

So now i need a C trumpet mouthpiece and a another one for piccolo? Ahhh...Im still paying back the money i borrowed to get my first monette! lol
with this whole college thing coming up, my C trumpet and Pic are going to be out of tune for a while then.

manny,
So all those old monettes (Im sure there's plenty) are just left unused roting away in the old mouthpiece drawer? What a shame. THats like letting a lamborghini diablo rot in the garage because you just got the Murcielago. nothing wrong with the diablo, it's still good enough for me...

Are there any clips of you playing your latest equipment? It would be interesting to hear the difference between your older set-ups, from the bach all the way to the Pranas slaps.

B15M

Did you play monette trumpets or conventional equipment? the results seem to magnify on monette Trps according to some.

I played my c2 on my Bflat for a couple of days, and was so damn puzzled when my intonation went to hell. Then I started moving the horn around while playing, etcetcetcyakyak. Ya, umm, my friend noticed and made sure to harrass me enough that I'm sure it wont happen again.
